Thomas Sinden were appointed as Principal Contractor to deliver restoration and extension works to Pier House, located on the northern side of Stand-on-the-Green in Chiswick to the northern banks of the Thames.

The existing building was constructed in the early part of the 20th century and used as a former laundry until being converted into offices in the 1980’s in a scheme that retained the original Georgian style façade.

A major fire in 2016 severely damaged the building and this led to our major restoration and extension project.

Large parts of the 1980’s steel frame required replacement and as part of our works an additional storey was added together with floorplate extensions to the rear. The original façade was retained using temporary works until the new steelwork frame was complete.

Material distribution was always a challenge with everything having to pass through a small entrance originally meant for carriages.

The Client, were very keen to ensure that we minimised inconvenience posed to the local residents therefore keeping them updated and well informed throughout the project was essential for project success. The end result is a great product and is testimony to the huge efforts of all the team.

The property now provides 21,786 sq. ft. of elegant, refurbished office space.
