Thomas Sinden were appointed under a JCT Design & Build Contract to deliver the conversion of the existing ground floor science block into a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Centre at New City College, Ardleigh Green Campus.

The dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Centre is designed to provide a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, featuring:
• An IT classroom
• A life skills studio
• Teaching kitchens
• Ancillary offices and storage
• 10 general-purpose classrooms
• New primary entrance and reception
• Sensory room with specialist acoustic ceiling panels
• Speech & Language and Job Coaching meeting rooms

With a tight deadline to meet the new term, quick decision-making was necessary regarding specific design requirements and the procurement of materials and products with short lead times to meet the programme. Close liaison with the client team and employer’s agent was essential.Weekend work was also required to ensure completion by the start of the college term.

We were responsible for the design of the new reception and sensory room, offering high-quality yet cost-effective products and using reflective colour schemes that exceeded the client’s expectations.

Together, we have successfully delivered a facility that enhances the educational experience for students with unique needs.

This scheme was procured through the Pagabo Framework.
