Loughborough Junction, Brixton

Thomas Sinden were appointed following a Mini Competition under the ‘Crown Commercial Framework – Civil Engineering Works & Associated Building Works’
to redevelop the public space at Loughborough Junction, Brixton.

The site sits within a previously disused area adjoining Network Rail arches, between Loughborough Road, Styles Gardens and Rathgar Road. The surrounding area is predominantly residential, adjacent to the Network Rail Line and adjoins an active community farm.

The works undertaken include the design and build of new drainage installations, attenuation tank, hard landscaping, access road, pedestrian paths, parking bays, electric charging points, bin store, bicycle storage, site access gates, electrical works (including upgrades to the existing rear building), below ground duct work, external lighting and access control equipment & associated works.

The works also included some soft landscaping – introduction of topsoil to specified areas adjoining the existing front building to make up levels for planting by others.

The programme required careful consideration to complete the works in a logical and sequential manner. The site team held regular coordination and liaison meetings with the neighbouring community farm, as the works were taking place right on the boundary of their farm. Communication was key for the smooth running of the project, in terms of maintaining progress in line with the programme and ensuring that all key project stakeholders were engaged and kept informed.
