As part of the regeneration of the existing Redbrick Estate, Thomas Sinden were appointed to undertake the fit out of a Youth Centre and Dental Practice which were being relocated into two floors of a 1960’s 4-storey commercial building located on the corner of Old Street and Central Street in Islington.
The works included the stripping out of the existing accommodation originally occupied by a printing company. Alteration of the building exterior included new external doors; windows; shop fronts; lighting; signage and an external basement escape stair. The conversion of the existing single commercial unit into two separate areas for each of the new uses and all internal fit-out works associated with both uses, including furnishings for the Youth Centre.
Dental Surgery
The works to the ground floor created 109m2 (GIA) of space for a new state-of-the-art dental care facility containing four practice rooms; staff room; office reception area; decontamination area and WC facilities.
Soap Box youth space
The ground and basement floor, covers 456m2 (GIA) of floor space for the new Youth Centre ‘Soap Box’ accessed from Old Street. The works have created: Two multi-use spaces (one on each floor); dance space; flexible meeting room; two music recording studios and associated control room; DJ suite; editing suite; classroom; staff office; kitchen.
