Following on from the extensive restoration and regeneration of the historic Grade II Listed Toynbee Hall in London, Thomas Sinden has just completed the main works on a brand new five storey office building at 28 Commercial Street, which will form a backdrop for the major public realm improvements to the front of Toynbee Hall.

The 1,200 sq. m. five storey office building will be home to advice and wellbeing services for the charity as well as providing four floors of commercial office space to generate additional income for its support services.

Des Thomas, Director of Thomas Sinden comments, “28 Commercial Street is our second phase of work for Toynbee Hall, following on from the historic restoration of the Hall, which was completed and opened to the public at the end of last year.

The work we have carried out has been vital for the charity to expand its services and support to vulnerable people and we are proud of what we have achieved.”

Thomas Sinden was appointed as Principal Contractor to deliver the extensive restoration and regeneration of historic Toynbee Hall, including the demolition of single storey extensions and the construction of new multiple storey extensions to provide offices, residential accommodation, education facilities and heritage interpretation.

Toynbee Hall was built in 1884 and the property became a Grade II listed building in 1973. Thomas Sinden carried out work including the conservation and restoration works to bring out the best of the historic fabric; alteration and refurbishment of the first floor to provide office space and residential accommodation; remodelling of the second floor into residential accommodation; providing a new publicly accessible Heritage entrance with interpretation and exhibition space and replacing modern extensions with a high quality new building to include an education suite and meeting rooms.
