As part of Waltham Forest Council’s Basic Need Secondary Expansion Programme, Thomas Sinden were appointed to deliver the development of Kelmscott Secondary School in Walthamstow, E17.

The phased works included an extension to provide increased dining space, an activity studio and related toilet facilities, storage and circulation. Alterations were also made to the existing school providing a science lab, new computer studies lab, graphics and product design studio, office, adjacent circulation area, and staff preparation space.

Hard and soft landscaping was included in the plans with new paving and planting around the new block and extension as well as providing an extra 46 cycle parking spaces.

As part of the Council’s commitment to tackling the Climate Emergency blue/green roofs are on both buildings to provide an area of native plant species to support pollinators and help improve air quality as well as helping with rain water storage.
