Thomas Sinden have been appointed as Principal Contractor to redevelop the former Minchenden School site, converting part of the site into a school for upper end aged secondary autistic pupils. The new school will provide places for 120 pupils, expanding specialist autism provision in Enfield, addressing the acute need within the borough.
The former Minchenden School site is an existing educational facility that has most recently been used by Southgate College. The works are to be undertaken in the two-storey Farbey building, workshop and Mews building, which are within the curtilage of the Grade II* listed Southgate House. The 3 buildings being renovated have a gross internal floor area of 3072 m², the overall site area is 6880 m² which will include associated external works, car parking, access roads and landscaping.
The refurbishment and modification will provide modern education facilities including a practice flat, vocational facilities for life-skills, creative arts and horticulture, a 6th form common room, therapy rooms and a gym and fitness room.
