Courtyard extension to Welwyn Hatfield Council offices
This design and build contract for Welwyn Hatfield Council saw the construction of two new extension blocks within separate courtyards of the existing council offices. The new facilities provide a data centre, IT support offices and new toilets with changing and shower facilities.
The scheme involved diversion of existing gas and electrical mains to clear the way for the new extensions, together with demolition of parts of the existing building. The works were carried out with the existing building in occupation, requiring careful planning and maintenance of temporary access routes and fire escapes, segregating the construction site from the occupied building, and carrying out noisy works within agreed periods.
